After finishing Bachchan Pandey, actor Akshay Kumar is ready to start filming for his next, Ram setu. The actor, along with director Abhishek Sharma and creative producer Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, will fly to Ayodhya on March 18 to give the Mahurat photo from Ram Janmabhoomi’s film.
While Kumar has gone on a family vacation to the Maldives and will return to work upon his return, the director of the film says that shooting is spread over several schedules over the next few months and that 80% of the film will be shot in Mumbai. Sharma also reveals that the actor will be seen in a new avatar. “Akshay sir plays an archaeologist and his appearance and character is inspired by several Indian and international professional archaeologists working in the field. In terms of appearance and character, Akshay sir fans have a whole new avatar, ”says Sharma.
As for the leading women – Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha, Sharma shares, “They both play strong, independent women with well-established roles. We’re keeping their appearance a secret for now! »Interestingly, it was Dwivedi who had the idea to launch the Ram setu trip to Ayodhya. “What better way to embark on Ram Setu’s journey than to start at the very birthplace of Lord Ram,” he exclaims.
Continuing to explain the idea behind the choice of location, Dwivedi said, “Having visited Ayodhya myself several times, I suggested to Akshay and the team to start the production schedule with blessings from the holy temple. by Lord Ram. We need to organize our mahurat shoot in Ayodhya and start our shoot on an auspicious note.
For Sharma, the journey of Ram setu began in 2007 when he “first read newspaper coverage of a court case related to a project to build a navigation channel in the shallow strait between India and Sri Lanka and the problems facing the project ”. He says: “I found it to be an opportunity to explore the truth behind an Indian legend and I was amazed at the breadth of the subject. It’s like being given the opportunity to tell a true story that connects generations of Indians to a part of our heritage that wasn’t getting the attention it deserved.
He shares that he locked the storyline during the lockdown last year. “I presented the first draft of the script to Akshay sir and he immediately came on board,” he adds. Regarding the film’s research process, Sharma expresses her gratitude to Dwivedi for leading the team in the right direction.
“He has helped us tremendously by providing access and perspective to history and religion, as well as creating a team of researchers with backgrounds in archeology, history, religion and science, in equal measure,” says Sharma, noting that the idea behind “the research process was to gain a holistic understanding of the topic and create a film about this true story that is grounded in and supported by facts”.
Kumar had announced the film on Diwali last year by posting posters on his social media. Now that everything is planned out, manufacturers are busy making sure all security protocols are in place for a smooth shooting experience.
Producer Vikram Malhotra says: “For Ram setu, there will be strict protocols in place, including travel and stay bio-bubbles, frequent health checks, and a professional agency on board to manage these protocols throughout. Considering the complexity of the story and the resulting locations, visual effects, and more, production will be spread across multiple timelines over the coming months. “
Malhotra takes notes of past experiences to move forward. “Akshay, along with Abundantia Entertainment, were fortunate to have successfully completed filming, post-production and even release of several of our productions during the pandemic period. So there is enough learning and experience to manage production with mitigated and controlled COVID-19 risks. “
According to Malhotra, Ram setu is a story made up of facts, science and historical legacy and has been rooted in the deep belief of Indians for centuries. “Today, as the younger generation becomes curious about their heritage, there has never been a better time to tell stories deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of our country,” he adds.
Kumar ends by saying: “Ram setu is a bridge between past, present and future generations ”.
