Armie Hammer Dropped From Upcoming Broadway Production ‘The Minutes’ – Deadline

Armie Hammer has withdrawn from the planned production of Tracy Letts on Broadway in 2022 Minutes, producers confirmed today. The news is Hammer’s latest career success following allegations of sexual misconduct and an LAPD rape investigation.

“I loved every second of working on Minutes with the family I made from Steppenwolf. But for now, I need to focus on myself and my health for the sake of my family. Therefore, I will not be returning to Broadway with the production, ”Hammer said in a statement.

The production team, led by producer Jeffrey Richards, issued the following statement: “Armie remains a valued colleague to all of us who have worked with him on stage and in Minutes. We wish him the best and respect his decision.

The actor was set to return to the suspended Broadway staging with Letts, Ian Barford, Blair Brown, Cliff Chamberlain, K. Todd Freeman, Danny McCarthy, Jessie Mueller, Sally Murphy, Austin Pendleton and Jeff Still. (Hammer was not in the original production of Steppenwolf 2017 in Chicago, as previously reported here.)

Minutes, a political comedy directed by Anna D. Shapiro, premiered on Broadway just as Covid closed, with its original March 15, 2020 opening night canceled and postponed until March 2022 at a location in the Shubert organization to be determined.

Minutes tells about the inner workings of a city council meeting and the hypocrisy, greed and ambition that surface when a newcomer to the small town of Big Cherry begins to ask the wrong questions: why a member advice mysteriously missing? Why are the minutes of the last meeting being kept secret?

2018 Pulitzer Prize finalist, Steppenwolf’s Minutes received critical praise for his engagement in Chicago in 2017, with the Chicago Tribune describing him as “a part Parks and recreation, part fuzzy area. “

Hammer was recently replaced by actor Dan Stevens in the Julia Roberts-Sean Penn drama Starz Watergate Gaslit. In February, Hammer was abandoned by WME after already leaving the Jennifer Lopez movie Shotgun wedding.

Hammer denied the allegations.
