BBC Studios poaches Banijay producer co-founders Sharp Jack – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: BBC Studios has hired Amanda Wilson and Elliot Johnson, the co-founders of Banijay-owned production company Sharp Jack, who have been responsible for co-creating international hits including The hunt and Come strictly dance.

Wilson and Johnson will join GM Suzy Lamb’s entertainment and music production department as development creative directors, helping the BBC’s business arm design and develop entertainment formats that can be sold globally whole.

They will work alongside existing Creative Entertainment Directors Mel Balac, Pete Ogden and James Payne to provide editorial direction and strategic business leadership to the development team.

The duo launched Sharp Jack Media in 2011 before partnering with Banijay (then Endemol Shine UK) in 2017 to become co-CEOs of Sharp Jack TV. During their time with the outfit, they created shows including TLC UK Always the maid of honor and E4 Honey, what have you done to your hair?.

Prior to co-founding Sharp Jack, Wilson was part of the creative team that crafted ITV’s hit game show. The hunt, which was recently relaunched in the United States by ABC. She also worked at BBC studios to co-create Come strictly dance, known as Dancing with the stars in America. Johnson, a former Fremantle executive, helped develop The X factor. He started his career with the BBC in shows including Top pops. The couple met while working at Tinderbox, a format division backed by Avalon.

Lamb said, “Amanda and Elliot are a creative powerhouse. Their fingerprints can be found on some of the most popular contemporary formats. Wilson added: “The last time I was at the BBC we had success with Come strictly dance. It’s great to come back to break new shots and I hope the formats we create will also get 10/10 from the judges! “

Wilson and Johnson are not the first creative chefs to leave Banijay after Banijay’s takeover of Endemol Shine Group. Other departures including Damian Kavanagh, CEO of Tiger Aspect and Useless co-presenter Richard Osman.
