Ben Lawson to play John Walton Sr. in CW movie – Deadline

The CW has completed the casting of their original made-for-television film The return of the Waltons. Ben Lawson (Alley of fireflies) plays Patriarch John Walton Sr., joining Bellamy Young (Scandal) who plays his wife Olivia, Logan Shroyer (It’s us) as John Boy and Richard Thomas, who originally played the role of John Boy Walton in The Waltons series, like “The Narrator”.

The return of the Waltons
marks the 50th anniversary of Coming Home: A Christmas Story TV movie, which aired on December 19, 1971, and launched the long series The Waltons, created by Earl Hamner.

The Waltons: Homecoming takes place during the Depression era of 1933 and is told through the eyes of John Boy, John and Olivia Walton’s 17-year-old eldest son. His mother expects John Boy to help him raise his sisters and brothers, and his father expects him to follow in his footsteps to help support the family, but secretly John Boy wants to be a writer. . Times are pretty tough in 1933, but to make matters worse it seemed like the Waltons’ first Christmas without John Sr. When Olivia receives a letter that John Sr. plans to come home for Christmas after all, the family is thrilled. and shopping to prepare for his return. But when a storm threatens his arrival on Christmas Eve and John Sr. is nowhere to be found, Olivia sends John Boy out into the night to find his father – a journey that will change John Boy’s life forever.

John Walton Sr. of Lawson is 42 years old and is as sturdy as his flannel lined jacket made from horse leather. He is the husband of Olivia (Bellamy Young) and the father of their six children. He married Olivia at the age of 21, and much against his family’s wishes, as John is not much of a practicing Christian. John left the family farm to work at a sawmill in Charlottesville – but he is thinking long and hard about returning to the land, like his father. He returns home by bus to spend Christmas Eve with his family, but it’s a torturous journey, due to a winter storm and a bus crash.

To complete the cast are Marcelle Le Blanc (PEN 15) like Mary Ellen Walton; Christian Finlayson (Ozark) as Jason Walton; Tatum Matthews (The artifice girl) like Erin Walton; Samuel Goergen (Young Dylan by Tyler Perry) like Jim Bob Walton; Callaway Corrick as Elizabeth Walton; Rebecca Koon (Sharp objects) as grandmother Walton; Alpha Trivette (Tyler Perry is too close to home) as grandfather Walton; Marilyn McCoo as sister Harriet and Billy Davis Jr. as brother William. McCoo and Davis are the original stars and lead vocalists of legendary group The 5th Dimension and recently appeared in a daytime drama Days of our lives.

The return of the Waltons is produced by Magnolia Hill Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producer Sam Haskell and writer / co-executive producer Jim Strain. Lev L. Spiro is the director.
