BTS recently released a statement in which they strongly condemned the recent anti-Asian violence and hatred in the United States. They also shared their own experiences with racism. The statement read:

We send our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. We feel grief and anger.

We remember times when we were discriminated against as Asians. We endured cursing for no reason and made fun of our appearance. We were even asked why Asians speak English.

We cannot put words to the pain of becoming the subject of hate and violence for such a reason. Our own experiences are irrelevant to the events that have taken place over the past few weeks. But these experiences were enough to make us feel helpless and shake our self-esteem.

What is happening today cannot be separated from our identity as Asians. It took a long time for us to discuss it carefully and we thought about how we should express our message.

But what our voice should convey is clear.

We are against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, me and we all have the right to be respected. We will stay united.
