Cannes expects more clarity on UK and US travel restrictions soon – Deadline

Thierry Frémaux and Cannes President Pierre Lescure spent part of this morning’s press conference addressing issues related to the current Covid restrictions in France which have caused confusion, especially for participants from the United Kingdom.

UK arrivals in France are currently scheduled to be quarantined and need a “compelling reason” to travel.

Lescure noted that there should be more visibility in the next 12 to 48 hours, as the French prime minister is expected to take stock of the situation.

Regarding travelers from the United States, Lescure said the problem does not come from France (with the so-called “sanitary pass” which will include information on vaccinations and tests), but rather from s ‘ensure that people can easily return to the United States. President Joe Biden is due in Europe later this month and that should help clarify the situation, Lescure noted.

Cannes analysis: a lineup full of promises and renowned authors makes hungry critics salivate

In Cannes, admission to the festival will be subject to a daily check of the health record attesting to a complete vaccination (with at least 14 days elapsed since a second injection in the case of bidose vaccines, and four weeks in the case of a single dose vaccine); or a negative PCR or antigen test result issued no more than 48 hours before – to be renewed every 48 hours for the duration of the festival; or evidence of immunity via a positive antibody test or RT-PCR test dated at least 15 days and less than six months.

Non-invasive saliva tests on site will be free and will take place at the Pantiero just after the Palace. The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and appointments can be made online.

Participants who are to be tested will have to adjust their schedules to accommodate this every other day, but that’s not the only new aspect of Cannes that could weigh on people’s schedules this year. A new 12-screen multiplex, the Cineum, will be open for the festival with four rooms reserved for Official Selection screenings. It’s in La Bocca, so it will take included travel time – the festival will provide shuttles.

We also learned today that the festival asks participants to pay 25 euros as a contribution to help it reduce its carbon footprint. A special section dedicated to environmental films will take place this year, the titles of which will be announced in a few days.
