Focus Features put production with Gareth Neame’s Carnival Films on Downton Abbey 2.
The original main cast will return for the second film which began production last week and is slated for release Christmas 2021 on December 22, 2021. Original stars include Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Imelda Staunton and Maggie Smith.
In addition, Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West will join the cast. Downton Creator Julian Fellowes will be writing the script for the film again, with winners Emmy Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge returning to produce with Fellowes. Simon Curtis, BAFTA and Emmy nominated director (My week with Marilyn) will join the production team to make the sequel.
