Charithra Chandran to play Edwina, Rupert Young will also be in the cast – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Newcomer Charithra Chandran landed the role of Edwina in season 2 of Bridgerton, Netflix and the very popular Shondaland Regency period drama series based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels, I learned. Rupert Young (Merlin) was also selected for a major new role in the series, created by Casper Van Dusen, I hear.

British duo join comrade New Bridgerton addition of the cast, the female premiere of season 2, Simone Ashley. Representatives for Shondaland and Netflix declined to comment.

Next season, slated for production this spring in the UK, will chronicle the search for a suitable marriage for Bridgerton’s older brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as featured in Quinn’s second book. Bridgerton series, The viscount who loved me.

Ashley plays Anthony’s romantic interest, Kate Sharma. Chandran will play his younger sister, Edwina, who first catches the Viscount’s attention.

Young will play Jack, the newest member of the Ton with a connection to one of his most notable families and a Bridgerton mystery. The character was created for the series; it’s not in the books.

In season 2, Bridgerton continues to shatter breed conventions. Kate and Edwina’s last name in Quinn’s novel is Sheffield, but they’ve been reimagined by the show’s production team as being of Indian descent as an extension of the reimagined multi-racial world of London’s high society. from the early 1800s premiered in Season 1, which featured several major black characters including the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel).

With her vibrant mix of Jane Austen-meets-Gossip Girl and its contemporary narration redefining the dramatic genres and period novels, Bridgerton captivated audiences around the world to shatter Netflix audience records. It went on to become the greatest streamer series in history, with 82 million households worldwide watching the first season (partially or fully) in the first four weeks.

The series also stars Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington, Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), Ruby Barker (Marina Thompson), Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton), Luke Newton (Colin Bridgerton), Ruby Stokes (Francesca Bridgerton), Will Tilston (Gregory Bridgerton)), Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton), Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton), Bessie Carter (Prudence Featherington), Harriet Cains (Philipa Featherington), Polly Walker (Lady Portia Featherington), Ben Miller (Lord Featherington) ), Sabrina Bartlett (Siena) Rosso), Martins Imhangbe (Will Mondrich), Kathryn Drysdale (Madame Geneviève Delacroix) and Lorraine Ashbourne (Mrs Varley).

The Van Dusen executive produces with Shondaland’s Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

Chandran is a recent graduate from the University of Oxford. It will next be seen in season 2 of the IMDb television series Alex rider.

Young is known to play Sir Leon in the BBC series Merlin. He was recently seen in the feature film The secret garden. His guest credits include The White Queen, Will and People don’t do anything. He also starred in the miniseries Crown Court of Justice Rinder.
