Disney’s Bob Iger and Husband Willow Bay Donate $ 5 Million to Fight COVID-19 in Los Angeles – Deadline

Joe Biden has a $ 1.9 trillion plan to fend off the coronavirus pandemic and get the U.S. economy back on its feet. However, here in Los Angeles, the executive chairman of Disney and his wife are putting some of their own money on the table to help small local businesses right now.

“Thanks to an incredibly generous $ 5 million donation from Willow Bay and Bob Iger, I am proud to announce that 1,000 of our city’s most affected businesses will be stepping down from this waiting list and being helped,” Mayor Eric Garcetti announced this evening. Iger and Bay funds will be distributed through the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles’ Covid-19 emergency fund, founded in March 2020.

“Your new engagement will help these companies weather this storm, and we are more than grateful for your bold leadership,” added Garcetti of Iger and Bay’s contribution.

Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are expected to be sworn in on Jan.20. Democrats will take control of the Senate on January 22, once Georgia’s two newly elected senators are officially accredited and sit in the upper house.

With theaters and theme parks closed due to Covid, Disney has laid off more than 30,000 employees and has more.
