On Friday night, DMX was rushed to a New York hospital after suffering a heart attack from a drug overdose.
Born Earl Simmons, the 50-year-old rapper is said to be in the intensive care unit from a White Plains hospital.
TMZ first reported the news. Subsequently, Billboard followed with representatives of the rapper, confirming that he is hospitalized.
Sources close to DMX told TMZ that OD occurred during the rapper’s heart attack at his home around 11 p.m.
An anonymous source said the rapper had “some brain activity” while another said he was currently in a “vegetative state”.
At this time, no further details have been provided regarding his condition.
Over the years, DMX has been known for its battles with drug addiction, having undergone drug rehab on several occasions. He last entered rehab in 2019, after a one-year sentence in a West Virginia prison for federal tax evasion.
