The original Netflix movie The white tiger starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Rajkummar Rao, and Adarsh Gourav dropped onto the streaming platform on January 21. Hours before the film’s worldwide release, producers Sonia Mudbhatkal and John Hart filed a copyright infringement complaint in the Delhi High Court against the film’s producer Mukul Deora, his chartered accountant Sharad Seksaria and Netflix. The plaintiffs claimed to hold the rights to adapt the novel by Aravind Adiga on which the film is based. Today, a few days after the film’s release, the producer duo addressed the Execution Directorate, alleging that Deora had used a check from a now defunct Swiss bank, BSI, for ” suspicious transactions for the project “.
Apparently, Hart and Mudbhatkal have asked the CEO to investigate the transactions. They also claimed that Netflix was aware of various Deora front companies. Meanwhile, Deora told a tabloid that there was no wrongdoing on their part.
According to reports, Hart who produced films like Revolutionary route and Boys don’t cry purchased the rights to adapt the book on March 4, 2009 from the author. Mudbhatkal joined him to produce the film and Deora was recruited as a passive financier in 2010. In their lawsuit, Hart and Mudbhatkal claimed that Deora had set up a network of companies to subvert the rights of rights holders. original author.
Previously, the Delhi HC had refused to postpone the film’s release. The next hearing in the case will be on March 22.
