The Delhi HC heard the petition filed by actor and environmentalist Juhi Chawla regarding the deployment of 5G technology in India on June 2. The case was dismissed, calling the petition “flawed” and “made for media advertising”.
Judge JR Midha, who heard the case, called Juhi’s decision “very shocking” and also asked why she had not approached the government before going to court. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the central government, called the lawsuit frivolous. He said the petitioner had to show where the technology was wrong and called the lawsuit a poorly designed litigation.
In the petition filed by Juhi, she called for a scientific study on the harmful effects of radiation emitted by the use of 5G technology on “the health, life, organs or limbs of an adult or a child. , or on flora and fauna “before its official deployment in the countryside. He also called for effective government research and said whether the implementation of 5G in India would be safe or not, taking into account the health and safety of current and future Indian citizens. The advocacy also urged the authorities to appeal to the Indian Council of Medical Research, the Central Pollution Control Board and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India to conduct their respective studies on the matter.
Meanwhile, a day before the hearing, Juhi Chawla shared the link to the virtual hearing, inviting people to participate in the session. This led to a man attending the hearing and singing songs of the actress while the hearing was in progress. The court issued a contempt order against the man and asked the police to locate the man.
