Indian Producers Guild Holds Mass Vaccinations For Its Members – Deadline

The Producers Guild of India is launching a large-scale vaccination campaign for its members and associated production teams.

The multi-day program will be held at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai and will start on June 1. The intention is to vaccinate thousands of production house staff and team. Organizers said mass vaccination was the only effective weapon in the ongoing battle against the coronavirus and that they hoped the camp would give a boost to the country’s mission to achieve universal vaccination, as well as facilitate safer filming once production has returned.

The latest wave of coronavirus infections in India has been devastating for the country, peaking at nearly 400,000 confirmed cases per day earlier in May. Hospitals were overwhelmed and vital resources were hard to come by. However, cases have gradually declined over the past two weeks and are now below 200,000 per day. It is hoped that an accelerated vaccination program will see infections continue to fall, but the situation remains precarious.

Currently, the film and television industry in Mumbai does not have a specific date for the resumption of production, but there is optimism that some filming may resume in July.

“An activity of this importance and of such magnitude cannot be achieved on its own and we are extremely grateful for the support we have received to make this possible,” commented Siddharth Roy Kapur, President of the Producers Guild of India. “In particular from our members Excel Entertainment who played a central role in securing the vaccine and Mehboob Production who very generously offered free use of the spacious Mehboob studios. We are pleased to be able to provide this facility to our members, their employees, cast and production crew as we work to get the industry back on its feet in the weeks to come. “
