Jackie Collins Doc ‘Lady Boss’ is coming to CNN in June – fitshopee

Jackie Collins, who mastered the art of the Hollywood pot turning sex and celebrity stories into an extraordinary literary career, is the subject of a new documentary coming to CNN later this month.

The cable news channel today announced its first LADY BOSS: The Jackie Collins Story at 9 p.m. ET and PT on June 27. The film, directed by Laurie Fairrie, takes its title from one of Collins’ novels, starring perhaps his most famous character, Lucky Santangello. Of his 32 novels, five were built around Lucky; film adaptations have been made of several of them, with Kim Delaney playing Lucky in one movie and Nicollette Sheridan taking the role in two others.

In total, Collins, the younger sister of actress Joan Collins, has sold over half a billion pounds in more than 40 countries.

“Her writing boldly exalts female power, sexual pleasure and freedom, often in the glamorous context of high Hollywood society,” CNN noted. “His works such as Odds (nineteen eighty one), hollywood brides (1983), and The Santangelos (2015) have never been out of print and continue to delight generations of readers around the world, building a community among her fans and generating one debate among others about her own brand of feminism.

According to CNN, the documentary draws on family photographs, home movies, audio recordings of Collins ‘books and “even snippets from Collins’ diaries.”

“Decades before ‘meToo’, Collins spoke of Hollywood’s ‘couch casting’ experience,” CNN wrote. “Years later, Collins exploited the not quite brilliant world she would dominate, romanizing many of the true accounts of her Hollywood experiences for her novels.”

The film takes a look at Jackie’s two marriages, including “the love of his life,” Oscar Lerman, who encouraged Collins to continue writing. She died in 2015 at the age of 77.

Fairrie follows Collins through her final days, including a determined return to London to bid farewell to her beloved siblings, actress Joan and Bill, her sister-in-law, Hazel, and her circle of close confidants. “, CNN revealed. “During this visit to London, most did not realize that Collins was in his last days with breast cancer and had secretly lived with the devastating disease for six years. Along the way, Fairrie interweaves interviews with Collins’ beloved daughters, Tiffany, Tracy and Rory, and her dearest friends, to paint the sometimes surprisingly vulnerable portrait of a complex and approachable woman, behind the chronicles coveted by the fans of Hollywood scandals and sex.

LADY BOSS: The Jackie Collins Story is directed by Fairrie and produced by John Battsek and Lizzie Gillett. The documentary is a Passion Pictures production for ABC Studios, CNN Film and BBC Arts, in association with Ventureland.

CNN calls the film “a definitive cinematic portrait of the author, mother, rebel and pioneer icon.”
