EXCLUSIVE: Prolific TV pilot director James Griffiths has been hired to direct and produce ABC’s fairy tale drama pilot Epic, of Once upon a time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis and ABC Signature. Filming is currently underway in Ireland.
Epic, starring Brittany O’Grady, is described as a romantic anthology series that reinvents fairy tales for a new audience.
Epic was written by the old one Once upon a time writer Brigitte Hales, who produces with Horowitz, Kitsis and Griffiths.
BAFTA-nominated Griffiths just completed directing and executive production of the pilot for the upcoming Disney + series The mighty ducks, based on the blockbuster movie franchise. Griffiths has had nine of the 11 pilots he has led and produced by management, picked up in series, including the ongoing hit series. A million little things, Black-ish, which has become one of ABC’s flagship comedy series and the Freeform spin-off Cultivated. Most recently, Griffiths directed and produced ABC’s most recent series. Stumptown, with Cobie Smulders.
Griffiths also produced ABC’s The mayor and led the pilots from Fox’s Justin Bartha with Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life and NBC Up all night for Lorne Michaels, with Will Arnett, Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph.
Griffiths recently resumed his long-standing global contract with ABC Studios for directing and development through his company, Fee Fi Fo Films, which he runs with Director of Development Brett Pirtle. It is replaced by WME.
