EXCLUSIVE: Absolutely fabulous and Paddington actress Joanna Lumley is set to appear in truncated third season of Mother land, the BBC comedy co-created by Emmy nominee Disaster star Sharon Horgan.
Lumley’s role is being kept under wraps, but she’s likely to be a popular addition to the comedy Merman and Delightful Industries, which returns later this spring and focuses on a group of unhappy parents as they juggle their careers and life at the gates of school.
Deadline learns that Season 3 will be a shorter episode than the usual six installment series. A source suggested this was due to filming changes linked to the coronavirus pandemic, although it is understood that Merman is counting last December’s Christmas special as part of the new season.
From the homeland the cast includes Anna Maxwell Martin, Diane Morgan, Lucy Punch, Paul Ready, Philippa Dunne and Tanya Moodie. It is written by Horgan, Holly Walsh, Helen Linehan and Barunka O’Shaughnessy. Merman’s executive producers are Mountford and Horgan, with Richard Boden for Delightful and Walsh.
The news comes as it was revealed last week that Merman is teaming up with Paul Feig and Lionsgate to remake Mother land for an American audience. The project is in the early stages of development and has joined Grace and Frankie and United we fall writer Julieanne Smolinski.
