Joe Biden Says 200 Million Dose Vaccine Dose Target Met – Deadline

Joe Biden said the administration was reaching early on its goal of getting Americans 200 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine by his 100th day in office.

“We did it…. Today we hit 200 million shots on the 92nd day of our mandate,” Biden said in short remarks to the White House. “It is an incredible achievement for the nation.”

He also announced a new tax credit for businesses with fewer than 500 employees that give their employees paid time off to get vaccinated, but he urged all employers to do so.

“No working American should lose a single dollar from their paycheck because they chose to fulfill their patriotic duty of getting the vaccine,” Biden said.

His announcement is in line with his administration’s tendency to set goals and then exceed expectations. But the tax credit was the latest recognition of the challenges his team face in convincing significant numbers of people to get the vaccines, which is key to gaining herd immunity.

“Now is the time for anyone over 16 to get vaccinated,” Biden said. He called it a “patriotic duty” to get vaccinated.

In an interview with Sean Hannity this week, Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump encouraged people to get vaccinated. He said he was asked to do a PSA ad urging people to do so, and said he would “definitely” do so. But he said he was dismayed they had suspended the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine.

“I said, ‘They want me to do this commercial, and they’re taking this break,'” he said, while claiming that Pfizer was “in” agreement with the FDA.

During his speech, Biden singled out companies that have provided special incentives for their employees to get vaccinated, such as supermarket chain Kroger, which offers $ 100 to every worker who gets vaccinated. He also identified a barber shop owner in Springfield, OH, who has a receptionist register workers and customers for the vaccine. Biden at one point said ‘salon’ instead of ‘salon’, before correcting himself and joking, “They might be going to the salon. I do not know.”
