Joe Morton To Co-Star In Fox Drama Series – Deadline

Emmy-winning actor Joe Morton (Scandal) is set as a lead role opposite Yaya DaCosta, Morris Chestnut and LaToya Luckett in the Fox drama series Our kind of people, by writer / executive producer Karin Gist (Star, Mixed) and executive producer Lee Daniels (Empire, Star).

Written by Gist inspired by the provocative and critically acclaimed book by Lawrence Otis Graham Our type of people: inside the black American upper class, The series is set in the ambitious world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, a historic stronghold where the rich and powerful black elite have come to play for over 50 years. Our kind of people follows determined single mom Angela Vaughn (DaCosta) as she sets out to reclaim her family name and make an impact with her revolutionary hair care line that showcases the innate, natural beauty of black women. But she soon discovers a dark secret about her mother’s past that will turn her world upside down and upset this community forever.

‘Our Kind of People’: Rhyon Nicole Brown to Co-star on Fox Drama Series

Morton will play Teddy Franklin, the father of Leah (Luckett), who is “sweet as butter, smart as a whip”. He was born in money and made his family’s sanitation business one of the largest holding companies in the world. He accomplished his current wealth and status by being more rapacious and manipulative than anyone in the business. When Leah berates him for buying black properties for pennies on the dollar, he has no excuses to offer and reminds him of where his current wealth and privileges come from. He has a mysterious connection to Angela’s (DaCosta) past which may soon reveal itself.

The cast also includes Alana Bright and Rhyon Nicole Brown.

Morton won the Best Guest Actor Emmy award for the role of Rowan Pope in Shonda Rhimes’ ABC drama series Scandal. He recently played the role of Rev. Arthur Finer in the CBS series God friend to me and recurring on Netflix The Politician. On the cinema side, he appeared in DC’s blockbuster superhero feature films. Batman V. Superman and Justice League as well as the legendary Godzilla. Morton is replaced by Vanguard Management Group, TalentWorks and Nina Shaw at Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein & Lezcano.
