Kate Quinn’s ‘The Rose Code’ in the works via Black Bear Television – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Black Bear Pictures, the team behind Benedict Cumberbatch’s feature film The imitation game, returns to Bletchley Park – this time for the small screen.

The company’s television division has opted for the rights to Kate Quinn’s novel Code pink and is developing it as a scripted television series.

The book, which was published by William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins earlier this month and which Black Bear Television won in a competitive situation, tells the WWII story of three women breaking the code at Bletchley Park.

As England prepares to fight the Nazis, three very different women answer the call to a mysterious country estate, Bletchley Park, where Britain’s best minds train to break German military codes. Through their friendship, these women find the strength to survive war, loss, grief and the impossible pressure of secrecy. Navigating two distinct timelines, the novel is a blend of history, romance, friendship, espionage, and mystery, all with life and death stakes and the countdown to World War II.

Quinn is the author behind The Empress of Rome saga and two books in The Chronicles of Bordia, as good as The huntress and The Alice network, which is currently being set up at Warner Bros. for limited-series development.

Black Bear, who produced the film directed by Morten Tyldum The imitation game, has stepped up its involvement in television. Last year he signed an agreement with Mad heart writer-director Scott Cooper will develop a limited drama series based on Angels and opted for the television rights of Naoise Dolan Exciting times and Mary Kubica’s Missing local woman: a novel.

The deal was negotiated by Michael Heimler of Black Bear and Lucy Stille of Lucy Stille Literary on behalf of Kevan Lyon at the Marsal Lyon literary agency.
