TV actor Anuj Saxena, known for his role on the Kumkum show, is also the chief operating officer (COO) of Elder Pharmaceuticals. He was recently arrested by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police. The actor was accused of having duped an amount of Rs 141 crores.

The EOW has requested custody of Anuj Saxena for the fraud. But the actor has denied EOW’s plea stating that he is a doctor and makes items such as disinfectants and kits that are essential in the present day when the second wave of COVID-19 hit the country.

Rejecting Anuj’s plea, according to India Today, Special Judge Abhijeet Nandgaonkar said: “[…]all the prevailing circumstances may be with the sole knowledge of this applicant / accused occupying a higher position in the company, which must be considered by the investigator during the investigation… Even if he is a doctor and in this situation Covid-19, he makes a kit, disinfectant, etc., but we cannot ignore the fraud that has been committed by deceiving gullible investors.

The court accepted the EOW’s assertion that Anuj Saxena, as chief operating officer, might be aware of the alleged fraud. Saxena will be sent to EOW custody on Monday May 3.
