Luke Bryan returns as ‘American Idol’ judge after missing first live show due to positive Covid test – Deadline

American IdolLuke Bryan posted a video message tonight confirming his return to the judging table for tonight’s show. He missed the first live show of the season last week after contracting COVID-19.

The country singer, who joined the ABC series at the start of its 16th season, revealed the news on Twitter. He wrote: “I am back and I will see you soon for American Idol! We’re live at 8 / 7c and voting starts at the top of the show. Grant! #American Idol. “

Bryan added in an accompanying video message, “I’m back and feeling great. I am so happy to be back at the judging table.

The decorated country singer has been replaced by the original American Idol Judge Paula Abdul last week. Bryan left an empty seat at the judges’ table for the episode as Abdul stepped in to help Lionel Richie and Katy Perry make their decisions.

LA County Public Health Covid-19 report: 29 new deaths and 527 new confirmed cases, with daily test positivity rate of 0.9%

Prior to contracting COVID-19, Bryan was not known to have received any vaccines. This may be because his home state is Tennessee, and unlike many of his co-stars, he should have returned to Tennessee to legally receive the vaccine. The vaccination process in Nashville opened to all adults on March 31.

For the live show, audience members will be masked, tested, and seated in pods with their immediate households, American Idol Showrunner Trish Kinane told Deadline in March. Behind the scenes, the ABC series follows rigorous COVID-19 guidelines and has worked with the LA County Department of Public Health.

American Idol is produced by Fremantle and Industrial Media’s 19 Entertainment. Executive producers include Fremantle’s Trish Kinane, also showrunner, Jennifer Mullin, Megan Wolflick with Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman as executive producers for 19 Entertainment. Fremantle distributes the series worldwide.
