Indian Idol 12 has come under intense scrutiny after Amit Kumar revealed that the creators asked him to congratulate the contestants on Kishore Kumar’s special episode. He also said he didn’t like Judges Neha Kakkar and Himesh Reshammiya singing the songs of his father and the legendary singer and that he felt that as an insult. However, lyricist Manoj Muntashir agreed to disagree with Amit Kumar. He lashed out at Amit saying he took the money and then criticized the show.
“If Amit Kumar came out and blasted the show, he shouldn’t have agreed to be a part of it in the first place. He took money for being a part of the show and then criticized it. ‘Wouldn’t If I was in her shoes and wasn’t comfortable with the procedure, I would have told the creators that I didn’t want to be on the show, ”Manoj Muntashir told TOI.
Manoj also defended Neha and Himesh against Amit’s harsh criticism by saying that “whatever Neha and Himesh sing, they did it to celebrate Kishore Kumar and it should have been taken in the right spirit”. He also said it was wrong for guest judges to constantly criticize candidates as it would demotivate them.
The lyricist admitted that the makers of Indian Idol 12 also gave him instructions to talk about the good points of competitors as well. He added that Amir Kumar had taken it the “wrong way” and felt he was only supposed to praise the competitors.
“The harsh criticism from the guest judges demotivates the candidates. Thus, the guest judges are told that they should also watch and talk about the singer’s positives. This instruction was given to me too. Of course, us as musicians. professionals, have high benchmarks, but we can’t weigh the kids on the same scale. See my episode this Saturday and Sunday and I pointed out the mistakes of the competitors, “said Manoj.
Meanwhile, Sunidhi Chauhan, who was on the jury for Indian Idol’s 5th and 6th seasons, said she quit the reality show because the creators wanted her to praise the candidates.
