Michaela and Ben Sinking Deeper into the Storm – Deadline

SPOILERT ALERT: This story contains details on the NBC Season 3 finale Manifesto.

Tonight, NBC Manifesto arrived at the end of its third season, coming out on a disturbing note, with the apparent death of an original actor.

When the two-part “Mayday” finale kicks off, former NYPD sleuth Michaela Stone (Melissa Roxburgh) experiences her “most powerful” calling of all time. In it, she finds herself on Flight 828, noting that the Montego airliner is oozing blood. As she struggles to confirm the meaning of the call, she interprets that an 828er is going to get hurt and works to prevent that from happening.

Around the same time, Cal, the son of Ben (Josh Dallas) and Grace Stone (Athena Karkanis), sneaks out of the house and heads to Project Eureka headquarters, hoping to bring the NSA in. to stop experimenting on the 828 tailfin. “It can’t be here anymore,” the boy said. “Otherwise, something bad is going to happen. Although Ben is under house arrest, he and Grace manage to make it to the lab to pick him up. But just like them, Cal begins to develop burns all over his body, related to his calls.

We then move on to Eagan (Ali Lopez-Sohaili), Randall (Christopher Piccione) and Adrian (Jared Grimes), disillusioned with 828 passengers who ended up in a prison cell. Eagan suggests that they take action against the government they believe is persecuting them, as well as against Ben and Michaela. From his perspective and that of Adrian, the end of time may well be nigh, and if it does, Ben would be to blame.

The trio discuss the myth of Noah’s ark, of which there are several versions. While it is commonly believed that Noah is the savior of mankind in the midst of the apocalypse, another version suggests that he is in fact an agent of the apocalypse – someone who invites the flood out of disgust with the world and only saves his family, leaving everyone to drown. In their minds, Ben is Noah – the dangerous traitor and “executioner” – and only bloodshed can save the world.

Later, Michaela discovers that Adrian is the key to unlocking the mystery of her calling. When he appears in front of her again, she sees him aboard the 828 and sees that he looks overwhelmed with guilt and shame, as if he has done something terrible. At this point, she gleans that the appeal is not about the death of an 828er, but rather murder. Sadly, by the time it comes to this frightening realization, Adrian, Randall, and Eagan have already been released from prison and are planning to take up arms against the government and his brother, in an unknown location.

Back at the lab, Ben tries and fails to detonate the tail fin in a desperate attempt to save his son’s life. He then has a revelation, realizing that he doesn’t need to be destroyed. Instead, it must be sent back to the ocean it came from.

Vance tries to stop NSA testing but is canceled. Then, to show the agency he’s right about the tail fin, Cal takes the dramatic step of touching it, at which point it evaporates into midair, much to his parents’ horror.

Elsewhere in “Part 1,” tensions run high between Michaela and ex-fiancé Jared (JR Ramirez), and her husband Zeke (Matt Long) expresses his belief that Jared still has feelings for her. Then there’s Jared’s girlfriend, Sarah (Lauren Norvelle), who comes to believe that Saanvi played a role in his mother’s (Elizabeth Marvel’s) death and has him investigated.

In “Mayday: Part 2” we see that Angelina (Holly Taylor) was recruited into the resistance by Eagan, while Randall and his girlfriend Erika (Susan Pourfar) run a gun store, so that they can have access to more weapons for their war. Subsequently, Erika is caught by the police and gives them the address of the warehouse where Adrian and Eagan are hiding.

When they find out that Erika has been interrogated, Adrian and Eagan consider the next steps. Adrian begins to doubt Eagan’s plan and suggests that they pause him until they find out what happened with Erika, but Eagan demands that they continue. Eagan is on the hunt for blood, while Adrian now believes violence should be their last resort, in their quest for justice. By the time Michaela and the NYPD arrive at Eagan and Adrian’s hideout, they are gone again. Still, Michaela discovers house plans that were in Eagan’s possession, which prove to be essential in finding him.

At the lab, Dr. Gupta expresses his belief that science, not faith, will bring Cal back. She holds the tail fin hostage in the lab, but eventually changes her mind when she realizes the calls are real. When Dr. Zimmer (Patricia Mauceri) tries to stop Ben and Vance from bringing the plane part back to her home at sea, Gupta asserts her authority to help make it happen. Subsequently, Saanvi and Ben find out where exactly the rear fin needs to go and set sail on a coastguard boat, in the midst of an electrical storm, to put it back in its place.

Later, we learn that the plans Eagan had in his possession were those of Vance’s residence. He and Randall enter it to find definitive proof that the government is trying to destroy the 828ers. The plot thickens when Vance’s son surprises them and Eagan radically changes his mind, preventing Randall from taking his own life. Vance then learns that his son has been taken hostage, and he is able to save his life, with the help of Jared.

After Eagan and Randall are arrested and taken away, Jared confronts Michaela, who admits that she knows what Saanvi did and kept it from him. As he expresses his disappointment in her and explains that he has no choice but to end things with Sarah, we learn that Jared does indeed harbor feelings for Michaela.

Saanvi and Ben manage to get the tail fin back into the ocean – although Saanvi almost drowns in the process – and once in the water, it begins to glow before disappearing. After successfully completing his mission, Ben is stunned to find that his son does not reappear. Then he finds himself in a call aboard the 828, alongside Saanvi, where a tearful Cal tells his father that he has to leave and that “this is how it should be”.

After Adrian experiences a crisis of conscience and abandons Angelina, he sends her in pursuit of his “guardian angel”. She finds her angel at Ben’s house when she breaks in, stabs Grace (presumably to death) and takes her baby with her. As Grace succumbs to her injuries, she sees a teenage version of Cal, who reassures her that he knows what to do now.

The episode ends with Gupta, who sees the entire 828 airliner suddenly appear in the Project Eureka lab, with its pilot inside, before vanishing just as quickly.

Manifesto is produced by Warner Bros. TV and Universal Television. While creator Jeff Rake has long maintained that he has a six-season plan in place for the series, with much of the story being worked out, his fate is currently on hold, given that a fourth season is no longer available. has not yet been ordered.
