Naomi Osaka offered her first comments on social media since her shocking withdrawal from Roland Garros on Monday.
The world’s No.2 tennis player spoke earlier about her battle with depression and social anxiety. Roland Garros officials fined her and threatened to remove her from the tournament for refusing media interviews. But Osaka punched them in as she pulled back on her own, later revealing the reasons for her reluctance.
The 23-year-old tennis prodigy wrote in an Instagram story, “I just want to say thank you for all the love. I haven’t been on my phone much, but wanted to jump in here and let you know that I really appreciate it.
Osaka has not said when she will play next time, but has indicated that she will move away from tennis to sort out her issues. She was next due to play on grass in Berlin on June 14, but withdrew from that event.
