Read the final series script for groundbreaking drama FX – Deadline

The FX Series Finale Pose this month brought an end to the story of the inhabitants of House Evangelista after three groundbreaking seasons, with the final episode showcasing the mix of uplifting, heartbreak, and hope that defined the drama that brought to light the New York’s ballroom culture and gay and trans communities in the 1980s and early 1990s at the height of the HIV / AIDS crisis.

This script, written by co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and showrunner Steven Canals with Janet Mock & Our Lady J, is the latest installment from Deadline’s It Starts On the Page, a series that highlights the scripts that will serve as creating the mainstays of the current TV awards season. These scripts are all Emmy nominees this year and were selected for our series using criteria that include rave reviews, selection from a wide range of networks and platforms, and a mix of established and lesser-known shows.

Final of “Pose”: the showrunner Steven Canals speaks [SPOILER]’s Sacrifice, the “great lesson in life” from the revolutionary series ”

The episode, simply titled “Series Finale,” encapsulates the history of the main cast, including Billy Porter’s Pray Tell, the part that earned him an Emmy Award for Best Actor. Pray was part of the heartbreaking element of the finale, sacrificing his own potentially life-saving trial drugs, which he had to fight for access, to give his ex Ricky (Dyllón Burnside). This brings Mj Rodriguez’s Pray and Blanca to play one last time – a lip sync from Diana Ross’ “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” – after which Aretha Franklin’s “I Say Little a Prayer” sends Pray to her fate.

“We, as queer and trans people, as blacks and browns, have always had to come forward for each other, which ultimately is the purpose of Pray Tell’s sacrifice for Ricky,” said Canals, who has also directed the episode, in Deadline after the finale. “It’s as much about HIV / AIDS and the impact of HIV on the community and community gutting, as it is about how we as queer and trans people of color have to constantly show ourselves. for each other. This sacrifice was meant to show our deep bond with one another. “

The episode ends with a flash-forward to 1998, when Blanca, now a registered nurse, explains to a young woman that her HIV status is not a death sentence.
