Senator Tim Scott defends his racist comments on CBS ‘Face The Nation’ – Deadline

Sen. Tim Scott highlighted his controversial ‘America is not a racist country’ comment today on CBS ‘ Face the nation.

The South Carolina Republican made the remark about America in his rebuttal last week to President Biden’s first speech to Congress. His remarks drew fire and racist comments from those who disagreed with his claim that the United States cannot substitute one type of discrimination for another.

Twitter finally stepped in last week to stop a string of trending comments that used the insult “Uncle Tim” to describe him following his comments.

“I’ve been saying for a long time: America is not a racist country,” Scott said. “The question is whether there is a lingering effect after a few centuries of racism and discrimination in this country. The answer is absolutely. The question that we should debate and fight over is how to solve these problems in the future. One side says: “I will take from some to give to others”. Fighting fanaticism with fanaticism is hypocrisy, it just doesn’t work. “

Scott pointed out that his fellow Republicans are working hard to expand opportunities.

“One of the reasons we fought and got the highest level of funding for historically black colleges with Republicans believing in this fight is because I understand if I can level the playing field. in education we will actually see humans thrive like we have never seen before, ”he says.

Face the nation host John Dickerson also asked Scott about the effects of the pandemic on black communities.

“When you pass a Covid package with $ 2 trillion in spending, and in your package you are hiding in there: if you are a black farmer, we will give you resources, but if you are a white farmer, you are excluded from these same Resources. It takes one to give them the other, ”Scott said. He refers to an initiative by the United States Department of Agriculture that has resulted in a number of lawsuits by white farmers.

“So we’re going to reverse that and call it a way of creating fairness in our country. It doesn’t really work, ”Scott said.
