The director of the next film Shashank denied in the Delhi High Court that the film was based on the life of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. He said the film shows the struggle of foreigners in the industry.
Director Sanoj Misra submitted an affidavit in response to a lawsuit brought by Rajput’s father Krishna Kishore Singh, who asked anyone to use his son’s name and likeness for film purposes.
“The defendant’s film no. 7 (Mishra) “Shashank” is totally based on the portrayal of foreigners’ struggle in Bollywood. The theme and story are based on four young boys. Defendant no. 7 is also a great example of struggling as a foreigner from Mumbai to Bollywood, “Misra’s response read. He also said there was a lot of difference in the name of the film. Shashank and Sushant Singh Rajput.
In the plea, Rajput’s father mentioned the names of some of the films which include: Nyay: Justice, suicide or murder: a star has been lost, Shashank and an unnamed crowd-funded film. Depending on the costume, Nyay set to be released in June as the filming of Suicide or murder: a star has been lost and Shashank has begun.
“The defendants (filmmakers), taking advantage of this situation, tried to seize this opportunity for ulterior motives”, indicates the plea. The plaintiff (Singh) also sought damages of over Rs 2 crore from the filmmakers for “loss of reputation, mental trauma and harassment” against Rajput’s family.
