Sinéad O’Connor bids farewell to all of this, declaring that she is retiring from music and touring, and that her next album will be her last. O’Connor made the announcements in a series of tweets posted on Friday.
“This is to announce my retirement from touring and my work in the recording industry. I have grown old and tired,” she wrote.
Irish singer-songwriter’s next album, No veteran dies alone, will be her last outing, she said.
“This is not sad news. This is incredibly beautiful news. A warrior knows when to retreat. It’s a forty-year journey. It’s time to put your feet up and make other dreams come true.
O’Connor’s iconic career will be remembered for several things. His head shaved close-up in the “Nothing Compares 2 U” video and ripping up a photo of Pope John Paul II after a Saturday Night Live performances are two visual milestones.
She will also be marked for her first two albums, The Lion and the Cobra and I don’t want what I don’t have were two of the landmarks of the late 1980s music scene and marked it as a cultural force.
Of course, declaring that you are retiring from the music business is itself a centuries-old tradition. Elton John, Cher and many others have been hosting farewell tours for many years.
It’s to announce my retirement from touring and my work in the recording industry. I have aged and I am tired. So it’s time for me to hang up my nipple tassels, having really given everything. NVDA in 2022 will be my last release. And there will be no more tour or promo.

Apologies for any dissatisfaction caused to booking agents, promoters or managers due to my tweets about my retirement. I guess the book made me realize that I’m my own boss. I didn’t want to wait for the men’s permission to know when I could announce it. Also, I had drunk some whiskeys 🙂
