Stephen Colbert’s “ Tooning Out The News ” renewed for S2 at Paramount + – Deadline

Expect more mocking media coverage as an animated series Tooning Out The News has been renewed for a second season.

The second series in the Stephen Colbert-produced series, which premiered on CBS All Access in April, will air on ViacomCBS’s new Paramount + streamer. A special half hour Stephen Colbert presents Tooning Out The News will launch on Thursday March 4 – the day the new service launches.

The show, which is also performed by The late show showrunner Chris Licht and RJ Fried and Tim Luecke, who co-created Showtime’s Our cartoon president, will then continue on Monday, March 8 with new daily segments and a full weekly episode.

Produced by CBS Television Studios, it features a cast of animated characters, led by host James Smartwood, poking fun at the news of the day and interviewing real-world guests and reporters.

The first season featured interviews with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Chasten Buttigieg, Rep Jamaal Bowman, Rep Pramila Jayapal, Alyssa Milano, Charlamagne Tha God, Symone Sanders, Alan Dershowitz, Rep Ted Lieu and Matt Schlapp.

The first series had to delay its premiere – originally scheduled for March 16 – due to the Covid pandemic, but production restarted remotely.

“We are so excited for the second season of Tooning Out The News, which will feature even more incisive questions, relentless egomania, Freudian projection, shameless brand integration, tasteful nudity, shameless slander and outright lie, ”Colbert said.

“We are delighted to collaborate again with the talented creative team behind Stephen Colbert presents Tooning Out The NewsSaid Julie McNamara, executive vice president and head of programming, Paramount +. “They’ve overcome every obstacle 2020 has thrown at them and delivered a hugely intelligent, inventive and fun program day in and day out that has given our audience a bit of a break from the ‘regular’ news cycle. We’re cautiously optimistic about what lies ahead for 2021, but whatever happens, we can’t wait to hear what the show’s more informative segments and characters have to say about it.
