There are good trips and there are bad trips, The late show noted host Stephen Colbert.
President Joe Biden had a good trip this week, heading to Europe to renew long-standing ties with allies. Kamala Harris drew the short straw of having to travel to Guatemala, which greeted her with protests and general contempt for the administration’s immigration policies.
Biden will come back “complaining about how bad our butter is here,” Colbert chuckled. Harris, however,
Harris will have to settle for healing his wounds, as negative reviews of his career have dominated the press.
“The trip didn’t go very well,” admitted Colbert. Harris especially botched things up when NBC’s Lester Holt asked her why she hadn’t gone to the border, responding, “I haven’t been to Europe.” The hidden message, Colbert said: “Is it too much to ask to have a slice of pizza with the queen?”
At least Harris didn’t have to deal with the cicadas.
The plague of ciicadas for 17 years has been all over DC, Colbert noted, with swarms so dense they appear on weather radars. “It’s never a heartwarming sign when your weather forecast sounds like the book of Revelation,” he noted.
