Universal and DreamWorks Animation have changed their 2021 release timelines, moving the sequel The Boss Baby: Family business from March to September. Switching to the new release date of September 17 had been the perfect place for DWA The villains, which is not configured at the moment and will get a 2022 release. Universal made the announcement on Monday.
Boss baby 2 was slated for a March 26, 2021 release, but most theatrical releases are on the move due to the coronavirus pandemic that has decimated the domestic exhibition sector, which to date only has 60% of its screens operating in the United States and Canada – and none in major Los Angeles and New York markets.
Tom McGrath returns to direct the second installment of the Boss baby franchise; the first photo grossed over $ 500 million worldwide and won an Oscar nomination for animated feature film. Alec Baldwin is also returning as the lead voice for the new film in which the Templeton brothers, Tim (James Marsden) and Ted (Baldwin), became grown-ups who went their separate ways.
The villains, based on Aaron Blabey’s bestselling Scholastic book series, is directed by Pierre Perifel in his first feature film, from a screenplay by Etan Cohen and Hilary Winston. It focuses on five notorious villains – Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark, and Ms. Tarantula – who are trying their hardest job yet – doing well. Damon Ross and Rebecca Huntley are producers; executive producers are Blabey, Cohen, Patrick Hughes and Jeff Berg.
