There is no storyteller in the country who is not charmed by digital platforms: Samit Kakkad: Bollywood News

After bringing four striking, grainy and edgy stories to life, writer-director-producer Samit Kakkad has crafted his finished nine-episode debut series for the OTT space, titled Indori Ishq, a hatke love story, painted in shades of red. The show, in Samit’s signature style, explores the concept of unrequited love and delves into the modern dynamic of commitment and loyalty in a boy-girl relationship. The nine-episode show, which premiered June 10, tells the story of Kunal’s love story, the heartache at the hands of his lover Tara and its dire consequences. The show’s teaser and trailer went live a fortnight ago and have been hugely appreciated by the young viewer base.

Samit has already made films like Ashcharya Chak It, Aayna Ka Bayna and Half Ticket, who have all been lapped by audiences for their technical genius and extremely realistic narratives. The filmmaker chose Indori Ishq jumping into the space of finished shows in the OTT realm, launching it with heartbreaking pain and extreme emotions, represented in raw form, deploying indie music to get the point across.

Speaking of which, the writer-director-producer, who has a two-film contract with filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s company, says, “There is no storyteller in the country who is not charmed by digital platforms. . One of my first films, Ashcharya Chak It, was a direct release on Netflix as people were still heating up watching content on platforms in India. As a filmmaker, I have perfected the art of creating stories in an avant-garde and realistic style – the emotions, the pain, the pleasures are all as real as it gets. With Indori Ishq, I got to dive into the psyche of a young couple, which was fun for me. I had a great time filming this show in Mumbai and Indore, exploring untapped places with an extremely dedicated crew. We had busy schedules and tapped both cities in never-before-seen tones. “

Samit’s previous films, Aayna Ka Bayna and half ticket, has traveled extensively to prestigious film festivals and won numerous accolades, including the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the 57th Zlin International Film Festival, 2017. The filmmaker, who is set to release his first Hindi film in the next few month, also added the finishing touches to his impending Marathi project, 36 Gunn, an experiential film, based on real events, shot with a passionate team of nine across central London, York, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Mumbai.

When asked what drives him to choose such diametrically different projects each time, resulting in a repertoire that can only be defined by the single word, Samit says, “I’ve never been the kind of person to chasing money. If I dip my fingers into so many different pies, it’s because I like the contents that I have on hand. I like being able to bring stories to life without compromising on quality, tone and technique. Whether it be Indori Ishq, my previous movies or my next movies – two in Hindi and one in Marathi – what worked in my favor was that I didn’t use any crutches. I think and act independently, and do what’s right for the project. I grew up believing that there is no better film school than a set and a post-production facility where you really learn how a story comes to life. Years ago, my dad paved the way for me when he started creating experimental content in his workspace. I strive to ensure that the same quality drives my company, Samit Kakkad Films.
