Tony Chambers Now Heading Disney’s Theatrical Cast, Succeeding Cathleen Taff – Deadline

Amid a massive restructuring at Disney, Deadline has confirmed that Disney veterinarian Tony Chambers has been relieved as executive vice president of theatrical distribution. He will oversee the distribution of national and international films as well as home entertainment. I understand that there are even reallocations underway in the company’s communications and advertising departments as it relates to senior executives overseeing certain areas of coverage.

He replaces Cathleen Taff who took over global distribution when Dave Hollis left in 2018. Taff is still with Disney as president of production services, franchise management and multicultural engagement. The new reorganization that Disney underwent months ago puts more emphasis on streaming, with the distribution side determining the best route for a film’s release: theatrical or Disney +. Disney has already sent press releases to the big screen due to the pandemic Soul, Mulan, Hamilton, among others to its streaming service. However, CEO Bob Chapek at the studio’s Investor Day in early December indicated that Disney was not going to turn its back on the theater once Covid suffocated itself; many IP addresses on the big screen responsible for the appearance of series on Disney

Chambers reports to Justin Connolly, President, Platform Distribution. Connolly reports to Kareem Daniel, President, Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution.

Chambers, who has worked at Disney for over 25 years and is based in the UK, most recently as Executive Vice President of Studio Distribution and Country Manager UK and Ireland, will lead and integrate all of the activities of theatrical and home entertainment distribution, including national and international cinema distribution of all films produced and broadcast by Walt Disney Studios, Walt Disney Feature Animation, Pixar Animation Studio, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20e Century Studios, Blue Sky Studios and Searchlight Pictures. It is not yet known whether Chambers will move to Los Angeles in his new position.

During his tenure at Disney since 1995, he has held various positions including Head of Studio Sales and Distribution for Europe, Middle East and Africa, as well as Managing Director of Emerging Markets, where he led operations in the Middle East, Israel, Africa Turkey Greece and Cyprus.
