NENT orders Icelandic criminal drama
Nordic streamer Nordic Entertainment Group has ordered psychological crime drama Fraternity. The six-part series stars Lilja Nótt Þórarinsdóttir (Midnight sky), Jóhanna Friðrika Sæmundsdóttir (Fortunately never after) and the winners of the Eddan Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir Prize (Trap) and Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir (Woman at war). The drama will premiere on the NENT group’s Viaplay streaming service in 2022. The series will ask who was really responsible for the disappearance of a young girl in Iceland 25 years ago. Ambitious police detective Vera (Geirharðsdóttir), unhappy with the initial investigation, investigates an unlikely trio of respectable and successful women.
Host of the Venice Film Festival ceremonies
Actress Serena Rossi will host the opening and closing evenings of the 2021 Venice International Film Festival. The Naples-born performer is recognized for her roles in film and television, including the Manetti brothers Ammore E Malavita, who competed at 75e Venice Film Festival, which has won him numerous awards. She is also known for her voice work in Italian film dubbing, including Frozen and The return of Mary Poppins, and she is a renowned recording artist and television host. Rossi will host the opening ceremony on September 1 before hosting the closing on September 11, when the awards will be presented.
British audiences will receive 200,000 free cinema tickets
British spectators will be able to access 200,000 free tickets when National Lottery Cinema Weekend returns this year, June 19-20. More than 500 theaters across the country will participate, this initiative being a welcome boost for theaters that have been hit hard by the pandemic. The theaters are slated to reopen next month and have been closed for almost six months. The event was last held in 2019, when 60,000 tickets were handed out at 250 venues. To receive a pair of free tickets, people must purchase a national lottery ticket. The films presented range from classics to the latest releases.
