Univision launches PrendeTV, a free, ad-supported streaming service for Hispanic American audiences – Deadline

Spanish-language streaming giant Univision on Tuesday announced its launch plans for the first quarter of PrendeTV, joining the crowded streaming market with a free, add-on-supported service created for Hispanic American audiences.

It will offer 100% Spanish high-end programming, with over 30 channels and 10,000 hours of video-on-demand content in Spanish from global partners.

Univision, led by CEO and co-owner Wade Davis, former chief financial officer of Viacom, said the service will feature “the most comprehensive offering of unlimited and exclusive premium content ever for Hispanic American consumers,” including series in curated Spanish, Hollywood movies, blockbusters and acclaimed world series, novels, comedies, classic sports, documentaries, lifestyle shows and children’s programs. The lineup will include Televisa’s exclusive libraries of fan-favorite programming that is not available on any other streaming platform.

“PrendeTV is an important first step in Univision’s wider efforts to build the same leadership position that we have in Spanish-language television, in the new Spanish-language streaming space,” said Davis, who officially finalized the acquisition of the company two weeks ago. and has just created a new team for help him move the business forward.

His former colleague at Viacom, Pierluigi Gazzolo, has been appointed President, Chief Transformation Officer. Luis Silberwasser, most recently at Telemundo, owned by NBCU, will be president of Univision Television Networks, and Donna Speciale, former head of advertising at WarnerMedia, will lead advertising sales and marketing at Univision.

The service “is unlike anything our audience has access to today and will completely change the landscape of video streaming in Spanish-language media in the United States” – and bring new ways for advertisers to reach audiences. Hispanic American, Davis said.

PrendeTV, he said, will play a vital role in expanding business partnerships with major distributors. These agreements have yet to be announced.

The service marks an expansion of Univision’s premier media portfolio which includes national broadcast and cable networks, local television and radio stations, and a suite of leading digital offerings. Consumers who watch or stream live and stream Univision programming for the current season will continue to access that programming exclusively through their cable, satellite and selected virtual MVPD subscriptions.
