The Vin Diesel F9 star, which is the latest release in the Fast and Furious franchise, is set to screen at the Cannes Film Festival which runs July 6-17 this year. F9’s Cannes 2021 premiere will take place in the first week of July, which should spark a buzz as the film is slated for release on June 25 in the United States.
In Cannes, the film will have a public screening on the beach for delegates as well as locals and tourists. The cast are not expected to make it to the premiere due to the ongoing pandemic.
Since Cannes chef Thierry Fremaux told Variety that the upcoming 73rd festival will project a “planetary blockbuster,” a guessing game has started among the global press on which film he was talking about. Fremaux had teased the media at a press conference on June 3 while announcing the official selection at the festival this year, claiming that the blockbuster in question was not No Time To Die or Dune or West Side Story, which were among the most publicized Hollywood films. should be released later this year.
Meanwhile, F9 has already had its international release on May 19 and has grossed over $ 250 million worldwide to date, Variety reports. The film raised $ 203 million in China alone. It has yet to be released to other major markets such as North America, India, Europe and others. The film stars Vin Diesel with a powerful cast including John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron.
Earlier, Vin had confessed that he wasn’t sure if he was part of the Fast And Furious franchise when it first started. He had also modified the script.
“The irony is that I felt like I got what the character wanted to be in the first script, but I felt there were things that conflicted with that truth – and that. ‘that’s where David (Ayer) came in. I remember him saying, “The character of Dom is so complex, I’ve never seen anything like it since Alonzo (the Oscar-winning role of Denzel Washington in Training Day).
