Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have announced the birth of their new daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
In what can be considered an olive branch to the royal family after recent turmoil over the couple’s talks with Oprah Winfrey, the child’s first name was chosen as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth, whose family nickname is Lilbet. Her late grandmother Diana, the Princess of Wales, was also honored with a middle name.
Lili was born on Friday June 4 at 11:40 a.m. at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. She weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces. “Both mother and child are in good health and are now moving home,” a statement said.
This is the couple’s second child, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
No photos of the newborn were provided. The statement announcing the birth read: “The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special family time.”
