[Spoiler] From ‘Rebels’ Makes a Cameo – Deadline

Here’s a big deal for fans of the Created By Dave Filoni Star wars animated canon: An old character (actually, much younger here) made an appearance in the first episode of the new Star wars animated series The bad lot that fell in the middle of the night. And that’s the voice of Freddie Prinze Jr. Star Wars Rebels Kanan Jarrus character. Except here he is known by his padawan name Caleb Dume.

Jarrus was a Jedi knight and the leader of the Ghost crew on Rebels. During Kanan’s run in the series, he is blinded by Darth Maul, the Dark Jedi introduced in the 1999 feature film. Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace.

At the start of “Aftermath,” Caleb survives Order 66; that’s when all the clone troopers at the end of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith turned their weapons and wiped out most of the Jedi by decree of Emperor Palpatine. BTW, the Bad Batch aka Force Clone 99 is made up of five rogue soldiers – Hunter, Crosshair, Wrecker, Tech and Omega – who refused to obey Order 66.

Bad lot begins with Caleb calling the five rogue members into a skirmish against the Republic’s breakaway droids. He is under the tutelage of Jedi Master Dep Billaba (Archie Panjabi). Caleb soon witnessed Order 66 in its full effect as Billaba became a target of the clone troopers. It is his sacrifice that Caleb absorbs. Because you see, Caleb ultimately sacrifices himself to save the Ghost Crew in Rebels. Caleb sees his Jedi master being tied up by the clone troopers, but she tells him to run. He follows his orders and winds them up running into the Bad Batch. “Stay away from me!” Caleb yells at them and rushes into the forest, then into a tree. Ultimately, the rogue soldiers see that Order 66 has been set up, but they support Caleb and protect him from the main troop. Hunter tries to help Caleb, but the child ends up jumping over a huge canyon and runs away. To be continued…

EW reports that it was Filoni’s idea to lure a young Caleb into the Bad lot start. The series takes place after 2005 Star Wars, episode III: Revenge of the Sith and before the animation Rebels.

Bad lot Jennifer Corbett and Brad Rau EPs didn’t make big promises EW that Caleb would come back, but they didn’t close any doors either.

Rau said, “We don’t come across familiar faces every episode, every time, but when we do, we want to make sure it’s worth it.”
