There has been a massive increase in COVID-19 cases over the past month in India, particularly in the state of Maharashtra. Several Bollywood celebrities have also tested positive for the virus in the past two weeks while shooting for their films. In recent days, actors like Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Govinda and Bhumi Pednekar have also tested positive. Today, the Federation of Film Workers of West India (FWICE) called on units to reduce the number of staff on film sets.
BN Tiwari, president of FWICE, is reported to have said the actors believe Corona is gone and have started recruiting 10 members, including bodyguards, managers, makeup artists and hairdressers on set with them. They even took more than one assistant with them. He also said that they are rephrasing the SOPs for artists and will mention the minimum number of employees that can be on set.
In 2020, the government in its guidelines for COVID made it clear that artists are encouraged to wrap their makeup at home and report sets with minimal staff. It was also advised that trials and fittings should take place at the actor’s residence and that testing of looks and other nuances be supplemented by video calls.
Apart from that, hairdressers and makeup artists have been advised to wear face shields and PPE when doing their hair and makeup, as it involves person-to-person contact. Makeup artists were also asked to mix the products in a disposable palette and, if possible, only use one brush applicator per actor.
