President Joe Biden has set himself a goal of having 70% of America’s adult population with at least one shot of Covid-19 by July 4, as the White House seeks to bring the country closer to normal.
The White House also unveiled plans for 160 million American adults to be fully immunized by that date.
Biden will announce the goal in a White House address on Tuesday. It will also announce an effort to vaccinate adolescents between the ages of 12 and 15, if the FDA approves its use for those under 16. The president will also announce plans to make vaccinations more convenient, including walk-in vaccinations at pharmacies.
The announcement comes as demand for the Covid-19 vaccine begins to slow, signaling that it may be more difficult to convince large segments of the population to get vaccinated.
