Mike Schur, Nkechi Okoro Carroll and Melina Kanakaredes developing projects at IMDb TV – Deadline

Amazon’s free streaming service IMDb TV has unveiled a major development list with projects such as The right place creator Mike Schur, All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll and CSI: New York star Melina Kanakaredes.

The AVOD service announced five projects ahead of its inaugural appearance at NewFronts.

The five projects join existing developments at Norman Lear streamer Laverner Cox, George Wallace, Jessica Simpson, Kat Candler, Shawn Ryan, Samantha Stratton, Monique Alvarez and Jessica Lee Williamson.

They follow series orders for people like Greg Garcia On springs and one Bosch spin off.

Schur teamed up with writer The Ringer and Basketball (and other things) author Shea Serrano on Primo, a coming-of-age story about a Mexican-American teenager balancing cultural norms, college aspirations, societal expectations, and the hectic life at home of being raised by his single mother and five uncles. Based on Serrano’s education, he will write and direct productions with Schur and David Miner. Primo is a Fremulon and 3 Arts production in association with Universal TV.

Melina Kanakaredes and her family’s century-old chocolate factory in Akron, Ohio are the inspiration for Greek candy. The one-camera comedy, from Sony Pictures Television, tells the story of mom, dad, their three teenage daughters, four very Greek immigrant grandparents and a very non-Greek ‘adopted’ son and what it means to live the American dream in 2021. Kanakaredes writes with Goldbergs executive producer Marc Firek and Kanakaredes, who also stars in The resident, will feature and perform the production. Firek is also producing alongside Josh Berman and Jennifer Robinson in association with Osprey.

All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll writes and produces The Fed, which follows both the personal and professional drama surrounding a group of young finance hopefuls as they begin an elite fraternity with the Federal Reserve, the country’s most powerful financial institution. These young financial geniuses are doomed for greatness – as long as they don’t mess it all up with secrets, lies, sex and politics.

It’s a passionate project for Okoro Carroll, who worked as an analyst for the Federal Reserve before breaking into television, and she will lead production alongside Adesuwa McCalla, who has a first-look deal with Amazon. Studios.

Frasier and What we do in the shadows executive producers Chris Marcil and Sam Johnson wrote Blessed and highly favored, unconventional workplace following Christine Kimbrough, a prodigal daughter who returns to Dallas as a rookie pastor and is tasked with keeping her family’s church alive in the face of rival mega-churches, money struggles and the presence of his predecessor and harshest critic – his father, Robert.

Marcil and Johnson will present and produce with Veep’s Chris Godsick and Broad City’s Peri Gilpin. The project comes from 3 Arts and Industry Entertainment.

To finish, Blackish and Schooled co-executive producer Vijal Patel uses his own life as inspiration to The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, PA. The project, from Sony Pictures Television, follows an Indian family and the tumultuous but humorous events of the two years since their arrival in Pittsburgh. Told as a comedic mystery for audiences to unravel, viewers find out what pushed them to the brink, leading to their current immigration issues. The big sick helmer Michael Showalter will direct and Patel and Showalter will perform the production alongside Sara Gilbert, Tom Werner, Mandy Summers and Jordana Mollick.

Lauren Anderson, Co-Head of Content and Programming, IMDb TV, told Deadline: “It’s about being in business with the absolute best, but it’s also about asking ‘What are the stories that ‘they are delighted to tell.

“I’m very interested in these great prolific creators and tell them what you want to do in streaming,” added co-director Ryan Pirozzi.
