CNN Films and Raw TV team for Paul Fronczak’s documentary – Deadline

After the success of their 2018 documentary nominated for BAFTA and Emmy Awards Three identical strangers, CNN Films and Raw TV are collaborating once again on a new film that will tell the extraordinary story of Paul Fronczak.

The lost sons follows Fronczak as he embarks on a quest for answers after discovering a troubling mystery about his parents when he was only 10 years old. While searching for Christmas presents, he found newspaper clippings about his parents: images of them mourning a kidnapped baby, then celebrating two years later a toddler found abandoned and returned to them.

Was Fronczak the missing baby? And if so, where was he for two years of his life? Directed by Ursula Macfarlane (Untouchable; Charlie Hebdo: three days that shook Paris), The story of Fronczak is told through a mixture of reconstructions, testimonies from relatives and direct witnesses, current events and family archives. The material was put together over a year and a half after production began in the summer of 2019.

The executive producers are Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent and content development for CNN Worldwide; Courtney Sexton, senior vice president of CNN Films; and Liesel Evans, UK Factual Creative Director on Raw. The lost sons is produced in association with Campfire, the founder of the company, Ross Dinerstein, also an executive producer. CNN Films takes care of the distribution.

“Fronczak’s story has twists and turns you won’t believe and explores deep themes that we can all relate to: the importance and meaning of identity and family,” Macfarlane said. Evans added: “When we came across Paul’s story, we were immediately struck. Not only is it an extraordinary thriller in real life, but it also asks deep questions about identity and belonging.
